Fly south for food

having a popcorn picnic
Since Richard had a meeting at work last night at 6:30pm, we met him for dinner beforehand so the children would be able to see their father this week..

We loaded on the layers prior to venturing out into the chilly already-dark evening (at 4:45pm, mind you).  Aubrey and I chatted about seasons and how it will be cold for a while now.  As we drove up highway 100, she inquired if we were going north or south.  When I responded we were traveling north, she was mortified.  "That is the colder direction, Mom! It is already the coldest ever!"

We pulled into the parking lot, and I parked in the spot closest to the restaurant. Huzzah! I would only have to lug two small children across a small access roadway to the restaurant, and I would be spared the juggle across an entire spread of frigid parking lot.

As we were piling out of the car, Aubrey was out with unconventional speed, before I had untangled Ben from his myriad car seat restraints.  I called out, "Keep a hand on the car, Aubrey.  Those cars driving past are not looking for little girls."

Aubrey was obedient, yet asked, "What are they looking for then, food?"

I giggled.

She said, "Maybe they are migrating."

Well, I guess 'tis the season.
