First, we stopped at the tortugranja (turtle farm). The baby turtles were in a row of tanks, each tank holding slightly larger/older sea turtles. There was also an area to touch the turtles.

Next we went to Hacienda Mundaca, a pirate's fortress on the island. The highlight of this stop were the spider monkeys. We sat and watched them climb and jump for quite some time. And while they were super cool, I couldn't help but think they got the shaft having to live in a chain-linked cage while there were so many trees just outside of their reach. What a shame.
Then we headed down to Playa Sur. We were looking forward to swimming, but the wind was really quite intense on the south side of the island. Here we walked up a lighthouse and viewed the island, saw some sculptures, and visited a Mayan temple dedicated to Ixchel, the goddess of fertility. And we ate a cheeseburger and ice cream. Mmmm.

On the drive home, we cruised up the east side of the island. This road is less frequently used but directly abuts the Carribean Sea. It was a beautiful drive.
Aubrey fell asleep on my lap for the last 5 minutes of the drive, so we took her to the hotel for a nap. During this time, Richard swam at Playa Norte and I tidied up the room a bit. Then we all went to the beach off of Calle Zazil Ha to swim and sunbathe.

It was time to return the golf cart, so we took it back and got some dinner at the restaraunt beneath our hotel, Rolandis. It was very good. The lemonade, though at first was surprisingly tart, was very good. I craved it afterward for a few days. Good thing all the lemonade in the area was good and tart.
We walked around the street shops for a while that night before Aubrey went to sleep. We, too, turned in early.

The turtles are amazing! Yeah for tart lemonade :) I'm impressed you remember so many of the names of places.
