On the first day, we woke up before the sun at Dave and Marilyn Badham's house in Bountiful and headed to the airport. We were worried that Aubrey would have a hard day, but she was a trooper. When Richard got her out of her crib, she uttered a groggy-yet-chipper, "All done" and bounded to the car. On the drive out of Bountiful we saw a herd of deer (at least ten) grazing on someone's lawn in the wee hours before civilization awoke. Crazy.

We flew from Salt Lake to Dallas, then on to Cancun. Customs was a breeze. Probably because we were not importing animals or canisters of spray paint (which the pictorial signs clearly communicated were banned items).
We then took a taxi van to the ferry dock at Puerto Juarez to head off to Isla Mujeres. Our driver was a bit crazy, a theme that persisted throughout the vacation. The ferry ride to the island was fun and wet atop a speedy yellow catamaran boat.

We checked into the Hotel Belmar on the island and all took a nap. Then, since it was getting late, we ventured to Playa Norte to walk in the sand, take a quick dip, and catch some grub. We ate tixin-xic fish tacos (a Yucatecan speciality) among other things. Aubrey was fascinated by a cat that hung out in the restaurant and on the beach. As you will see, following stray animals was another theme of the vacation.

We retired to our room early to put Aubrey to sleep and watch TV en espanol on our 12" hotel flat screen. Ah, the life. Through the night, I slept to the sound of macaws outside our door.

I can tell Aubrey loved having a whole week with Mommy and Daddy and the ocean. What a cute family you are!
