Day 4: Playa del Carmen and Tulum

On Saturday, we woke up early, packed up our things, checked out of the hotel, and walked to the passenger ferry dock. The wind was gusty and the water swelled and rocked our boat. I got sick. Aubrey said "Wee!" We all got soaked (including our luggage). It was a ride to remember.

From Puerto Juarez, we took a rickety bus/van to the main bus station. Here we caught a bus to Playa del Carmen. The 1.5 hour bus ride cost us a total of about $5 for all of us. When we arrived in Playa del Carmen, we dropped our bags off at the Hotel Lab Nah and headed back to the bus station. We then hopped another bus to Tulum; it took just under an hour to get to the ruins.

By the time we got to Tulum, it was getting quite hot outside. We spent the rest of the morning and the early afternoon touring the ruins. They were amazing. The beautiful Caribbean Sea was framed behind the majestic rock structures. We also saw many lizards ("zizards" as Aubrey called them). They were everywhere.

We ate lunch at Tulum and took a bus home. We gave Aubrey a nap at the hotel and took showers. Then we spent the rest of the evening walking Quinta Avenida in Playa del Carmen. After Aubrey went to sleep, Richard and I took turns getting pampered; first I got a pedicure, then we went out to get a massage.
