On our last day in the Yucatan, we checked out of our hotel in Playa del Carmen and took a bus up to Cancun. Here we caught a public bus (with all of our luggage and stroller) to our hotel. Here we checked in and ate lunch by the pool and Carribean Sea. Richard went scuba diving while Aubrey took a nap and I did homework in the room. The dive instructor said Richard "moved well in the water." I am not surprised; he is a fish. I enjoyed reading next to the window, listening to and watching the waves roll in (and the teenagers hit on each other at the pool below).
When Aubrey woke up and Richard returned, we all swam in the pool for the rest of the evening. Back in the room, we showered as the sun dimmed outside our window.

We caught the bus again up to the busy section of the hotel zone. (Our hotel was just south of all the action.) The bus was filled with tourists out for a night on the town. A couple of entertainers came on board and sung/played the guitar for us.
We went to La Isla Shopping Center to a thai restaraunt (appropriately named Thai) with the one of the greatest ambiances of any place I have ever eaten. It was an outdoor restaraunt where you climb up stairs to private, tree house-like rooms to eat while sitting on cusions. It was amazing. (The food, by the way, was great, too. Very spicy.)
After dinner, we went home and went to sleep. Our taxi would be arriving at 3:45am to pick us up to go to the airport.
Checking in at the Cancun airport was easy enough. We had to wait in lines (no kiosk check in available), but were ready to board about twenty minutes early.
The Dallas connection was a bit more difficult. We had to go through customs (aka three long lines) and fill out multiple forms. All the attendants, though, were very nice. We then had to take the sky tram to another terminal to catch our flight. By the time we reached the gate, our gate information had changed. Luckily, it was within the same terminal. We just had to walk for another ten minutes.
On the flight to SLC, Aubrey needed a new diaper. I changed her in the little airplane bathroom, and I think it freaked her out. She screamed and screamed when we got back to our seats. Finally, she decided that if we could change her diaper again on her terms, she would be ok. So we went back to the bathroom. I let her be in charge, following her every move. ("Diaper ooff now, Mommy. Now wipeys." And so on.) Finally it was time for pants on. She wanted me to throw a clean diaper in the garbage. Alas, she was not fooled by my pretend throw into the trash. So I threw it away. Then she wanted me to throw her pants away. Alas, again she wasn't fooled. We compromised by me letting her not wear pants for the duration of the trip. I thought it was a good deal.
We landed in SLC and hopped in the car for the 2.5 hour drive to Burley. By this point, Aubrey was exhausted and napped all the way home. Ah. We were home by 5:30pm. All in all, it was a good travel day.

Hi Holls! I just noticed this fun post below your Easter one--bonus! I love (and relate to!) the diaper story. Avery and I just watched all you Mexico videos, so we've had a virtual vacation :)

See ya soon!!!
You are a wise and sweet mommy to let your growing toddler make a harmless choice, even if it was to go pants-less! She has so many consequential choices ahead of her - you are letting her have great practice to prepare. And yeah for car naps!
