Day 3: Beaches and Streets of Downtown Isla Mujeres

On our second full day in Isla Mujeres, we spent the entire morning on the beach. We swam, we sunbathed, and we ate sand. Oh wait, that last one was just Aubrey. Apparently, it was "nummy." Perhaps she has pica. Or perhaps she is just a toddler.

After showers, lunch, and naps, we walked around the streets of the island for the rest of the day. The pedestrian-only streets were torn up in many places due to construction. It seemed every day a new section of the road was being redone with new paver bricks. More than once we awoke to the sound of jack hammers ripping up the concrete in front of our hotel. (Note holes in the picture below).

We went to the mercado and purchased sundry items with pesos. We walked to a park and played in tin-tube slides (which I called "scoots" because they were quite horizontal).

We chased a pair of stray, black kitties around the streets. They were so cute and mangy that I considered stowing them in my suitcase to take home and fatten up.

We ate dinner (pesto and shrimp) at a delightful Italian restaraunt, and Aubrey found a new favorite food ("gween noonuls"). All and all, it was a relaxing and fun day in paradise.

Everything is so colorful! What amazing things you saw! "Scoots" is a good name for horizontal "slides". The kitties are so fun. Good thing you had lots of zizards to eat the zugs!!
